'Tommy' reviewed by Joe Mysak
Saturday August 28, 2004
Click here for an excellent review of Tommy, the new book by military historian and frequent television presenter Richard Holmes. Concentrating on the experiences of British soldiers during the First World War, Holmes reveals men who often held a different view from the traditional one of waste and pointlessness (or "mud, blood and poppycock"). Mysak's review, as well as tackling the book, begins to explain the difference between the modern view of WW1 and that held by its combatants.
