A balanced view of WW2
Saturday November 13, 2004
Bookended by references to current US foreign policy, Michael Manville's article is an excellent look at the modern US view of WW2 when compared with the reality of 1939-1945 (or, indeed, 1936-1945). I probably like it so much because I've come to many of the conclusions - especially the weaknesses of historian Stephen Ambrose - although we do differ in places! In a week when the Americans have commemorated veterans and the British their war dead, this piece might be interesting reading.
