Home Front Diaries
Saturday May 13, 2006
Canada East currently has a review of War on the Home Front: The Diaries of Daniel MacMillan 1914-1927. MacMillan was a Canadian man whose sons travelled abroad to fight in World War One and the diary provides a real insight into how Canadian communities coped as the war waged in Europe. Also of interest to students is the opening paragraph, which ruminates on how and why diaries are important to historians – there’s a great quote if you plan on doing a essay on sources soon.
