'112 Gripes about the French' (Published 1945)

Saturday January 12, 2008
No, I’ve not suddenly gone all ‘freedom fries’ on you. ‘112 Gripes about the French’ was the title of a pamphlet published in 1945 by the 'Information & Education Division' of the ‘US Occupation Forces’, given to soldiers stationed in Europe in World War Two. Rather than (verbally) attacking France, the book lists 112 common complaints about France and argues against them, to try and make the relationship between soldiers and locals smoother. The whole text is now available online here.
