Who Do You Want on Your Statues?

Saturday February 23, 2008
There are a lot of statues across Europe, but this article from Britain’s BBC poses the question: do people want historical figures as statues, or do they want modern, some might say more relevant, figures? I found it an interesting read and by the end I wasn’t sure which side I was on, I’d opt for a mixture of the two!

(1) Dan says:

I opt for historic figures, for they were ordinary people for the most part, but they made a change that effects history. A few were extraordinarily gifted, but many simply rose to the occasion. A statue reminds us of their finest days, of their struggles, and calls us to learn from their lives, perhaps even to emulate them.
