Cold War Bunker Opens to the Public

Saturday March 1, 2008
We’re in the middle of a series of Cold War themed articles here on About European History, so I thought I’d mention this news story: a former nuclear bunker, complete with over ten miles of tunnels, for sheltering the West German government during a nuclear war has opened as a museum dedicated to the conflict. You can’t tour the whole thing though, just 200 yards worth of tunnels, but you can see decontamination rooms, meeting rooms and the lodgings of the Chancellor. The title isn’t exactly tourist friendly though: ‘Government Bunker Documentation Center’.
