Beach Walker Discovers Bronze Age Chieftan
Friday August 22, 2008
Walks along the beach are usually framed as something romantic, which makes this story a little different. When Trevor Renals was walking along the coast of an island off of Cornwall (UK), he discovered bone fragments which had been uncovered by erosion. An amateur archaeologist, he recognized what he’d found and called in professionals who worked quickly to salvage the site from more erosion, discovering the remains of a Bronze Age chieftan and a stone lined ‘cisk’, or burial casket. A local newspaper has more information.
