"Amulet that ruined my life"

Saturday November 1, 2008
Britain’s Times newspaper this week reported on the "other side" of a recent controversy. It concerns Quentin Hutchinson, who in 1990 excavated a silver Christian amulet from an allegedly undisturbed Roman grave. The amulet would have indicated the earliest known Christian burial in England and would have been a major find if other archaeologists hadn’t cast doubt about its authenticity. Since then scientists have done tests and concluded that the silver is from the 19th century. Hutchinson protests that he still believes the find to be genuine, but states that the controversy has ruined his career. He now wishes he had never found it. I found it an interesting read.

Wow. This needs to be made into a book. Is it one yet?
