90th Anniversary of the End of World War 1

Saturday November 8, 2008
November 11 2008 will be the ninetieth anniversary of the end of World War 1, when an armistice came into effect at 11:00 am. Consequently there has been a lot of WW1 related articles and news stories in the media this week. The following caught by eye:
  • "World War I Battlegrounds": The BBC has provided four small videos exploring WW1 battlefields.
  • Soldier Awarded Posthumous Honor: A son’s research into his father’s life revealed the injuries the father had suffered and covered up, leading to the posthumous reward of a medal.
  • "Art and the First World War": A look at how World War 1 influenced the artists of the time (with a few pictures, one I really life). You do have to register to read, but it is free.
  • "Last soldiers to die in World War I": The BBC notes the names of the last soldiers on the Western Front to die before the armistice came into effect (although many died of their injuries afterwards, and elsewhere round the globe).
