Hadrian’s Wall Repairs

Saturday November 15, 2008
Hadrian’s Wall was a continuous fortification which stretched across northern Britain, from the east to west coast, to act as a defence for the northern limits of the Roman Empire. While the structure is greatly reduced these days some survives, and one section at a place called Great Chesters is currently being repaired. It’s a major restoration project and is costing £200,000 for the 800m stretch. The damage needing repair was caused by the weather and nearby animals.

The £200,000 is a drop in the ocean for preserving an oft neglected national treasure (IMHO)without which the history of Britain would be far the poorer.

Isn’t Hadrians Wall a perfect project for the likes of Lottery Funding?
