Roman Battlefield Revises Understanding?

Saturday December 20, 2008
Archaeologists working in northern Germany have uncovered evidence of a Roman battlefield. Arrowheads, axes, 300 bolts thrown by Roman “scorpio” weapons (think bolt throwers) and coins have all been found near Northeim, 50 miles south of Hanover. You might be thinking that this isn’t particularly unusual, as there must be thousands of Roman battlefields in Europe. Well, this battlefield dates to the third century AD, and is apparently in a location much further inside Germany than historians had believed the Romans were operating at the time, possibly causing changes to our understanding of the era.
