German Windows Returned

Saturday December 27, 2008
Medieval stained glass windows from a church in Frankfurt an der Oder, Germany, have been returned by Russia, who looted them during World War 2. The Russians didn’t actually take the windows from the church itself, as they had already been dismantled and moved for safekeeping by the Germans, but removed them from their storage site in Potsdam. A reported 2.3 million "cultural" items were looted by the Russian army during the conflict, although to be fair the Germans looted plenty of items themselves. There is a picture here.
