Diary of Dissent

The media’s need to reduce World War 2 down to simple opposites - the good West versus the evil Germans - often obscures the fact that there were dissenting voices in Nazi Germany, but they were heavily, often lethally, oppressed. The grandson of one of these dissenters has his diary, kept when speaking out in Germany – and the grandfather did speak out, at rallies opposing Hitler – became too dangerous and he and his family were threatened with a concentration camp. The diary chronicles Friedrich Kellner’s anger at what was happening in Germany, and his grandson Scott Kellner now works to promote knowledge of what happened during the Nazi regime. “Sign on Dan Diego” has an article about the Kellners and there is a documentary which will hopefully be widely available: “My Opposition: The Diaries of Friedrich Kellner”.
