Car Park Rock Actually “Runestone”
Saturday May 2, 2009
A rock used to mark the boundary of a church car park in Sweden has been identified as a thousand year old “runestone”. The rock, which dates back to the Viking era, was identified by Stockholm County Museum expert Lars Andersson, who said finding the carved runes was like having a “religious experience”. It’s now believed that the stone was used as a grave marker before mud covered over the inscriptions and led people to use it as just a convenient boundary stone.
