A few months ago we spoke about an expedition to Burma which aimed to find a large number of Spitfire planes that had been buried when World War 2 ended. The Spitfires were believed to be in sealed crates, and would have survived enough to be assembled. Unfortunately there have been a flurry of reports from the dig sites, and it's not good. While the man who spearheaded the project, David Cundall, is still hopeful, the archaeologists have concluded the Spitfires aren't there, and the project appears to be, if not falling apart (reports are playing up the tensions), then heading for failure.
