The relative rarity of medieval books has enabled bibliophiles to try and catalogue all remaining examples, but private collections frequently produce surprises. Until recently historians believed there were only two extant copies of the fifteenth century Vita et Fabulae, better known as Aesop’s Fables. However, the owner of a private library has just put up a third for auction!
