1594: The first documented staging of a Shakespeare Play (The Comedy of Errors).
1688: William of Orange, Stadtholder of the United Netherlands, accepts an offer to assume control of Britain's government; he later becomes King William III of England.
1694: King William III of England, formerly William of Orange, rules alone after his wife and joint monarch Queen Mary II dies.
1879: Tay railway bridge disaster.
