1190: Over a 100 Jews are killed by a crowd at Clifford's Tower in York, England.
1494: Ludovico Sforza receives the dukedom of Milan for allowing his daughter Bianco to marry Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I.
1534: England's Parliament passes laws bringing the church under royal control.
1647: Harlech Castle surrenders in the English Civil War; it was a royalist stronghold and the last Welsh castle to be taken by Parliament.
1808: Finland is declared a province of Russia...by Tsar Alexander I of Russia.
1851: Catholicism becomes the sole religion of Spain, with control over education and the press.
1872: The first FA Cup final is held.
