Austria and Hungary

Intimately tied to the Holy Roman Empire, and later Germany, the Austrian Empire grew in power and importance, before Hungarian nationalism forced the creation of a dual Austro-Hungarian monarchy in 1867. This collapsed in 1918, at which point the Czech and Slovak peoples declared their united independence.

This is an excellent map for anyone beginning to study the Austrian Empire. The borders of present-day Austria and the greatest extent of the Austrian Empire have been marked onto a relatively recent map of Europe. However, the dates and areas of territorial change are unmarked.
