About.comEuropean History
A group of peoples living in the southern regions of Eastern Europe and Asia (and named after their location), the Cossacks’ long military tradition and horsemanship have become intertwined with Russian, Eastern and European history. The Don Cossacks are the most famous, but the Tartar, Polish, Kuban and Ukrainian/Zaphorozian are often mentioned.
Cossacks and the Cossackdom
This useful account of the Cossacks during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries has been provided by a record label, so if you’re really fascinated by Cossack history you can listen to them too!
Ethnic Geography of the Cossacks
A small summary, but one mixing the ethnic details of the Cossacks with their history.
History of the Ukrainian Cossacks
A relatively long entry from the Encyclopedia of the Ukraine, this discursive and analytical history is accompanied by a bibliography although, unsurprisingly, few of the works are in English.
Massacre of the Don Cossacks
This press release might not be the longest document on the web, but it's both informative – explaining that the Soviet government tried to eradicate all Cossacks – and hopefully inspiring.
The Origin of the term Cossack
