European Union
The European Union evolved from the aftermath of World War Two, when a Europe torn apart by war decided to more closely integrate themselves to, in part, prevent further conflict. The union was at first economic - the 1957 Treaty of Rome creating the European Economic Community - but has since grown and expanded to include its own laws and government. The ‘EU’ itself formed in 1993.
