Unrestricted Submarine Warfare

By

Definition: Unrestricted Submarine Warfare is the practice of using submarines to attack and sink all forms of enemy shipping, whether they are military or civilian.

When Germany began to use its fledging submarine force for Unrestricted Submarine Warfare in World War 1, it was quickly condemned by neutral nations, and pressure from the US forced Germany to stop. The German decision to restart Unrestricted Submarine Warfare, in an attempt to knock Britain out of the war through a submarine blockade, led to the US entering the war.
