Italy and the City-StatesNow a unified Republic, the area known as Italy has seen many political divisions, including the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily, the republics of Florence and Venice, the Duchy of Milan, and the Papal States.
A Common History of Italy
An excellent analytical narrative of Italy’s history, divided into sections for easy access. However, very similar narratives appear on several other sites, where P. V. Cannistraro and J. J.
