While the Second World War was a truly global conflict, one of the two main belligerents was based in central Europe and conflict engulfed almost the whole continent, from western France to eastern Russia, from the Mediterranean to Arctic waters. This is a directory of my own content and the best sites on the net.

Essays on World War 2
Uri Noy's collection of essays has a noble aim: "Instead of over-detailed or too technical essays, [my] focus is presenting and explaining why and how things happened the way they did in world war 2". In a field where articles can debate the wheel positions on a panzer, this set of essays is an invaluable introduction to an ever-growing, and admirably diverse, range of subjects.
Military History Online
The World War 2 section of Military History Online is an excellent collection of essays, articles and information on most aspects of the conflict, written in solid style by a range of experts. There are sufficient illustrations to please readers without irritating them and book adverts of the worst sort: you want to buy them all!
The World at War
Despite some large menus, this is basically an elaborate timeline: most of the content is structured around a yearly chronology. As well as learning what happened and when, you'll find tables, information and many, many targeted links mixed among the dates. There's also a forum, but it's not been overly friendly in the past.
World War 2 Analyzed
Despite limiting much of his content to US forces and interests, Dave Depickere's site contains a mix of broad and detailed information: often unknown facts, information on US weaponry, accounts of battles, stories from veterans. However, the content is sparse and hasn't been updated in a while.
World War 2 by the BBC
After a shaky start the BBC now produce some of the web's best educational content; their World War 2 site is no exception. Well written articles by leading historians, great animated maps and features, audio, media reports, a broad class of topics and plenty of illustration make this an easy Best of the Net winner.
