WW1 at Sea

In general studies of World War One the eastern and western fronts command the most attention; however, the 'war at sea' - including naval battles and u-boat actions - was equally important.
Battles at Sea
Many of the links in this index give technical information and statistics, but this page - part of firstworldwar.com - provides short accounts of each 'major' naval battle, supplemented by a few photographs. Sections on smaller actions are forthcoming.
Naval Combat
Run by Darren Milford, World War One Naval Combat is a large and excellent site focusing on the actions and interactions of the UK and German fleets. Several key battles are explored in detail (supported by good maps and charts), while plenty of other information is also available.
The U-Boat in World War One
Uboat.net is dedicated to submarine warfare and I don't use dedicated lightly, as this is a real labour of love. The WW1 section is ever growing, currently including an illustrated introduction to the U-boat and it's use (His Imperial Majesty's U-boats in WWI), lists of all the U-boat's, pictures, maps and more. Researchers can also pay to access a staggering amount of data. A triumph.
The War at Sea
Hosted by the excellent 'Trenches on the Web', this massive 'mini-site' contains a staggering amount of information on all aspects of naval warfare, including pictures, photographs, source material, narratives, discussions, statistics and much more, including a few external links. You might be overwhelmed on your first visit, but it's worth persevering.
World Navies in the Great War
Part of Naval History.net (which has equally good resources on WW2), this page has a good introduction, a vast amount of information spread over clearly defined pages (ship, type, date of loss) and bibliographic detail spread throughput. The most popular feature may well be the month-by-month list, with narrative, of the naval battles.
