7th Century Burial Boat Found in Sweden
A burial ship dating to the seventh century has been found in Sweden, making it not only the first burial ship to be discovered in Sweden, but the earliest known in the whole of Scandinavia. Possibly ten to twenty metres in length, the remains of the ship also has equipment and animal remains, and dates to an age known as the Vendel era. Archaeologists hope to learn more about life in Sweden during this era by excavating the burial. This Swedish news source has a picture of the dig.
