Civita di Bagnoregio in Danger

By April 19, 2013

Follow me on:

Civita di Bagnoregio is a small village in the Lazio region of Italy that was built on an outcrop of rock, and is reached via a long bridge. It's a highly picturesque site dating back thousands of years, but as the outcrop has eroded so the village has become at risk, with buildings falling down the slopes and repairs needed. The village has thus become the first entire settlement in Italy to charge an entry fee to tourists, asking 3 euros per adult. The money will go on engineering work, and the project's success or failure is being closely monitored.
